Fungi Walk for Beginners

This program is intended for adults and teens only.

Guided mushroom walk for all those interested in discovering fungi growing in the Dow Brook Conservation area, this 34-acre parcel of wooded uplands and wetlands adjacent to town reservoir watershed lands, connecting to thousands of acres of open space lands with an extensive trail network.  Walk leader will be Jana Harris of Essex Forays, certified in Wild Mushroom Food and Safety and member of Boston Mycological Club. Walk will last about 2hrs and will give participants a chance to look close up at mushroom species that are unique to the wetland environment and also mixed woods. Depending on weather there will be different types of mushrooms to explore. Please wear sturdy shoes, bring a water bottle and ID field guide if you have one.

Suggestions for attendees to wear and bring:

  • Wear long pants and closed shoes
  • Bug spray/tick repellant are highly recommended
  • Water bottle
  • Small notepad and pencil if you'd like
  • Field guide if you have one
  • Basket (optional)
